Frank Painter,
MS, CCE, FACCE, is a Professor and Clinical Engineering Program Director in the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program at the University of Connecticut. With over forty years of clinical engineering and biomedical equipment service management experience, he has directed in-house programs at two large metropolitan teaching hospitals and managed two successful regional independent medical equipment service organizations.

Mr. Painter is internationally recognized in the field of clinical engineering, having published and presented on risk management, quality improvement, human factors engineering, technology assessment, and technology management both nationally and internationally. He is actively involved in the profession, having served as President of the American College of Clinical Engineering, Chairman of the US Board of Examiners for Clinical Engineering Certification, and Chairman of the Healthcare Technology Certification Commission.

Mr. Painter's contributions to the clinical engineering profession have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the 2016 American College of Clinical Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Clinical/Biomedical Engineering Achievement Award, and the Marvin D. Shepherd Patient Safety Award. He has also been a member of the Technical Advisory Group on Health Technology for the World Health Organization and the Healthcare Technology and Training Task Group of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine. Additionally, he has served as a member of the AAMI Human Factors Engineering Standards Committee, developing standards to improve the usability and safety of medical devices.

As a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Clinical Engineering, published by LWW-Wolters Kluwer, Mr. Painter continues to contribute to the field of clinical engineering and biomedical equipment service management.
